BUSINESS / ESHELMAN'S GARAGE |
Description |
ESHELMAN'S GARAGE Eshelman's Garage on Derry Road and Trinidad Avenue in 1922. Shows old gas pump - old truck - old cars - four men - l-r - Dan Yost, Jake Eshelman, Lloyd Loy, Irvin W Deets. The garage (livery) stood on the north side of Derry Road, just across Derry Road from the RR underpass near Highpoint Mansion. Milton Eshleman remembers this garage, owned and operated by his father, and said it was once a livery stable where carriages and horses were kept. The building at one time was about twice the length that is shown in this photo. extending about 200 yards from front to back. The back portion had cement floor and was used for the carriages and later the cars. The dirt floor portion was left to deteriorate and eventually was removed. It is believed that this structure was the livery for the Haeffner House Tavern, which stood next to the railroad tracks. (On a photo of the Haffner House, is a sign on a post saying "Livery"). The Garage was removed about 1948-49; |
