LAUFFERTY & MCKINLEY SCHOOL BROWNSTONE BALL 1,2 - George Laufferty standing outside his house 304 Cocoa Avenue, next to the brownstone finial that once graced the top of the McKinley School. When the McKinley School was torn down to build the Community Building in 1928, Mr Lafferty's father also George purchased the ball and it was displayed in his side yard for 85 years. George Sr, his father, brother and uncles all worked at the Brownsone Quarries. Andrew helped to create the ball. In 2013 it was donated to HDTHS by George Sr.'s grandaughter and her husband, Georgia and Thomas Richard in memory of George Lafferty Sr., his brother Andrew and his son George Jr. Today it is displayed at the front entrance to the Hershey History Center. |
